How This Calculator Works
Unlike calculators that hide the result behind an email form, ours shows your estimate instantly. It combines four inputs:
-
- Style: sets the base per-minute rate
-
- Visual complexity: Simple, Standard, or Premium multiplier
-
- Add-ons: scriptwriting, human voice, or AI voice-over
-
- Duration: multiplies the per-minute rate, plus a one-time concept-art cost
The output gives you an estimated project investment, a per-minute breakdown, and an estimated timeline in working days, enough to budget with confidence before you ever talk to us.
The number calculated is a ballpark range, not a quote. Animated video is priced per finished minute, and that per-minute rate moves based on 4 things: style, visual complexity, video length, and add-ons (script, voiceover, extra languages). Most educational and explainer projects land between $1,000 and $4,000 per finished minute – the calculator places your project inside that range based on the options you select.
If you want an exact figure for your brief, request a precise quote, we’ll confirm scope and price after a short briefing (normally wihin 24h.)

2026 Animation Cost Benchmarks
These ranges reflect typical industry pricing for educational, explainer, and healthcare animation in 2026. Use them to sanity-check any quote you receive.
| Animation style | Typical 2026 range (per min) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Whiteboard | $1,000 – $2,000 | Training series, internal courses, budget-conscious projects |
| Motion graphics | $1,500 – $3,000 | Explainers, product promos, data-heavy content |
| 2D character | $2,000 – $4,000 | Brand storytelling, client-facing explainers |
| Frame-by-frame (hand-drawn) | $3,500 – $8,000+ | Premium, one-of-a-kind, NGO/campaign films |
| 3D animation | $4,000 – $10,000+ | Product demos, medical device & pharma visualisation |
Note: Price is quoted per finished minute, not per minute of work. A 90-second explainer can take 4–7 weeks to produce. Rushed timelines raise the price; longer series lower the per-minute rate through economies of scale.
Add-on costs:
| Add-on | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Scriptwriting | $170 – $250 / min |
| Human voice talent | $100 – $150 / min |
| AI voice-over | up to $50 / min |
| Extra language localisation | priced per minute × number of languages |
5 Factors That Change Your Animation Cost
1. Animation style. Whiteboard is the most affordable; hand-drawn frame-by-frame and 3D are the most expensive because each frame demands far more manual work.
2. Visual complexity. A simple character (basic shapes, no facial expressions) costs a fraction of a detailed one (custom clothing, expressions, shadows, multi-colour assets). Complexity is usually the single biggest swing in a quote.
3. Level of motion. Smooth, dynamic motion takes more time than simple movement. Be cautious of unusually cheap quotes, underpriced animation often comes back jerky and has to be redone.
4. Video length. Pricing is per minute, so a 3-minute video costs roughly 3× a 1-minute one, but per-minute rates often drop for longer series.
5. Deadline. A standard 2D educational video takes about 4–7 weeks. Compressing that timeline increases cost.

Animation Cost Calculator FAQs
How much does an animated video cost in 2026?
Most educational and explainer animation costs between $1,000 and $4,000 per finished minute in 2026. Whiteboard animation is the most affordable (from ~$1,000/min), while 3D and hand-drawn animation can exceed $8,000/min for premium work.
How accurate is the animation cost calculator?
It gives a ballpark range based on real project data, not a binding quote. Final pricing is confirmed after a short briefing where we review your script, asset count, and timeline.
Why is animation priced per minute?
Animation is tailor-made, frame by frame, so cost scales with finished screen time rather than a flat package. A one-minute video that looks effortless can still take weeks of work.
What’s the cheapest type of animation?
Whiteboard animation, because its simple, line-based style requires the least manual detail work. Motion graphics sit in the middle; 2D character, hand-drawn, and 3D are the most expensive.
Do I need to enter my email to see the estimate?
No. Your estimate appears instantly on this page. You only share contact details if you want an exact quote.
How long does an animated video take to produce?
A standard 2D educational video takes about 4–7 weeks. Larger series or rushed deadlines change both timeline and cost.
