Pre-Op Patient Education for US surgical & procedure units
The cancellation was booked when you handed over the prep sheet.
Most same-day cancellations aren't clinical. They're prep the patient read and didn't do. We build procedure-specific prep video that turns read into done right - delivered through the channel you already use.
Bring the procedure your list cancels most for bad prep. We’ll show you your current prep instruction and a version built from your protocol, side by side. No cost, nothing committed

Why prep doesn't land
A prep sheet is one exposure, at the worst possible moment.
Completion rates look fine. The problems show up later - when someone hesitates at the wrong moment, defaults to the wrong response, or skips a step they technically covered in training.
Watching and reading builds familiarity. Practice builds performance. Those aren't the same thing, and most training is built around the first while expecting the second.
The cancellation that follows isn't the patient being careless. It's the predictable result of asking someone to run a multi-step medical prep from a page they read once.
How the Prep Kit works
Show the patient what to do, why it matters, and how to tell they've done it right - at each step.
Built once from your protocol, signed off by your clinical team, then it runs for every patient booked - delivered through the same channel you already send prep on: your portal, your reminder texts, or printed. Nothing to install. It doesn't replace your reminder calls or your pre-op clinic. It's the layer that makes the instructions they already send actually land.
Why this prep matters
What the doctor needs, and what happens if the prep fails. Compliance becomes understanding, not obedience.
What to eat, drink, and stop
The diet, the fasting, and which medicines to hold — the single densest source of prep mistakes, in one place.
Your prep task
The one step unique to your procedure – bowel prep, liver-shrink diet, eye drops – timed to the patient’s actual appointment.
Are you ready?
How the patient checks their own prep worked before they leave home — so an incomplete prep is caught there, not at check-in.
Day-of and getting home
Fasting confirmation, what to bring, and the escort they’ll need after sedation.
What we claim, and what we don't
Most vendors here imply a cancellation number. We'd rather be precise - your pre-op team will check.
What the evidence supports
Clear, repeated, procedure-specific patient education improves prep compliance – fewer patients arrive fasted wrong, off the wrong medication, or with an incomplete prep. Reminders and pre-op education measurably cut no-shows and prep failures.
What it doesn't
We won’t move the cancellations that aren’t the patient’s to prevent – an OR running late, a bed shortage, an emergency displacing the list, a new illness found on the day. Those are the largest share of the raw rate, and no video touches them.
So, the honest position
We don’t lower your cancellation rate. We build one thing – the patient-preventable slice of it – to a standard a generic prep sheet can’t reach. If your prep failures are already near zero, you don’t need us. In most units, they aren’t.
How we do it differently
Moving the video earlier isn't the point. What it says is.
Most vendors hand every hospital the same prep script. Ours is written from the protocol your unit actually follows.
| Feature | Generic prep sheet / licensed library | Built by F.Learning |
|---|---|---|
| Format | One page, read once | Five short videos, seen at each step |
| Timing | A fixed "night before" countdown | Anchored to the patient's actual procedure time |
| What the patient sees | "The average patient" | Their procedure, their steps |
| Self-check | None | The patient can tell if their prep worked |
| When your protocol changes | Wait for the vendor's next release | Refresh built into the contract |
Generic sheet
Drink the bowel prep as directed and eat lightly the day before.
Built from your protocol
First dose at 6pm tonight. Second dose exactly 5 hours before your procedure – for an 11am appointment, that’s 6am. Your prep is working when what you pass runs clear, like weak tea. Not clear yet? Drink another 500ml of water and call your prep line.
One a patient nods at. The other a patient can follow, alone, at 6am. Multiply that gap across every step of every procedure, and that's what built-from-your-protocol means - not a nicer video, an instruction that could only have been written for your unit.
We don't approve clinical content. Your team does.
A licensed prep sheet was written for the average patient, by people who never saw your workflow. Ours is written from your protocol and signed off by the clinicians who own it, before anything is produced. We bring instructional design and production. You bring the medicine.
What that costs you, stated plainly:
Two review rounds per script, designed to take a clinician minutes, not hours – each script arrives with your protocol line beside every claim, so the question is “does this match what we do,” not “is this correct in general.” A five-video kit runs roughly 90 minutes to two hours of clinical time, spread across the review rounds. If that’s more than your unit can spare, tell us on the call – better raised early than in week six.
What we've built
One team runs learning design and production end to end – scripts don’t go generic in a handoff, and revisions don’t wait on a second vendor. A sample of our patient-education work:
Can you make a genuinely hard, anxiety-heavy procedure clear - and keep the clinician at the centre?
Prof. Manish Chand, colorectal surgeon (London)
a patient explainer for robotic (Da Vinci) surgery that turned the fear "the machine is in control" into a pre-consultation video keeping the surgeon central.
Can you explain an unfamiliar procedure to anxious patients, right where they decide?
Giskit / IQ Medical Ventures
A whiteboard explainer of the HyFoSy procedure for patients facing fertility investigations, built to play in gynaecologists' offices.
Can you get a patient ready for what happens before they even arrive?
Association of Migraine Disorders
"Your First Headache Visit: What to Expect" - a medically-reviewed explainer that walks a patient through exactly what their first specialist visit involves, so they arrive prepared instead of anxious. The same job a pre-op prep video does.
How the Prep Kit works
A cancelled slot rarely gets backfilled the same day.
Operating-room time runs up to $100 a minute — an hour lost is up to $6,000, before the wasted prep, the re-booking, and the patient pushed down the list. A suite running 200 procedures a month, at even a 3–5% prep-failure cancellation rate, loses six to ten slots to causes education can reduce.
Set against that, a Prep Kit is roughly the cost of one to two avoided cancellations.
We’re not claiming it avoids a set number. We’re pointing out the bar for this to have been worth doing is low – and it’s a one-time build against a leak that recurs every week.
Choose your kit
Every kit is the same five videos, built from your protocol.
Every tier is built from the same source: your condition's full topic list, cross-checked against clinical guidelines and core measures. Your visual system is built once, which is why the per-video price falls as the series grows.
Option 1
Test
$2,500 / video
$5,000
The two prep steps your patients fail most – built from your protocol
Proven on your own list before you commit a step further
Option 2
Full Kit
$2,000 / video
$10,000
Every step a patient gets wrong, covered – the complete safety net for one procedure
Reaches them at home: matching digital + printed checklists for facility screens and for patients & caregivers to keep
Option 3
Complete
Everything in Full Kit, plus
$13,000
One organised home for your prep, beside your other patient-education materials
Kept current as your protocol changes – one free refresh a year
A second-language version, optional
The 2-video Test is priced to prove the difference on real patients – not to be the cheap way to buy the kit. The Full Kit is more than twice the videos plus the take-home materials, at a lower price per video. Most units start with the Full Kit.
How the Prep Kit works
The questions that actually decide it.
Who owns the finished content?
You do - full rights, indefinitely. It isn't licensed to you, and it doesn't stop working if you stop working with us.
We already have a patient-education library. Why add this?
That library was written for the average patient with your procedure, not for the protocol your unit actually follows. If the two say the same thing, you don't need us. In our experience they don't - the difference shows up exactly where it matters, in the specific instruction a patient has to act on at home.
Patient privacy - is there PHI in scope?
No. The content is generic to your protocol, not to individual patients, so no patient data touches anything we build. There's no PHI in scope.
Spanish, or other languages?
Every video is built for translation from the start; additional languages are priced per language on the existing visual system, far cheaper than a new build.
Accessibility?
Closed captions and transcripts as standard. Scripts are written to a target reading level agreed with your patient-education lead.
How does it reach the patient?
Through the channel you already use to send prep - your portal, SMS, or print. Nothing to install, and no new platform for your team to run.
What happens when the protocol changes?
Complete includes an annual refresh. On Test and Full Kit, revisions are quoted per video on the existing visual system - inexpensive by design, because the visual system is the expensive part and it's already built.
How long does it take?
Roughly [X weeks] from scoping call to delivered kit, depending on how quickly clinical review turns around.
How do we buy this?
Standard vendor onboarding - we provide W-9 and insurance documentation and quote against a PO. Tell us your process on the call.
The cheapest way to find out whether this is different is to look at one prep instruction.
Bring the procedure your list cancels most for bad prep — the one your pre-op nurses re-explain over the phone because the sheet never lands. We'll show you what your current prep says and what a version built from your protocol would say, side by side, on a 30-minute call. If the difference isn't obvious, don't buy it.
